Nov 09 Sat. 10:00-13:30  My Story and Myself

Nov 10 Sun. 10:00-13:30 Our Shared History with Humanity

The 2024 Shekou Theatre Festival’s new writing incubation program has five different themes: narrative drama, multilingual drama, visual drama, elements of drama, and drama and games. During the selection process for authors leading up to the script readings, we collectively experienced typhoons, torrential rains, heatwaves, and earthquakes; we witnessed the deaths of the elderly, the deaths of citizens, and the deaths of children; we participated in the rewriting of myths, the annihilation of heroes, and the extinction of plants. In our daily lives, it seems as if we have fallen asleep, as if there are no alarms left to wake us.

However, in dramatic writing, we have clearly captured the storms: those of nature, society, thought, and emotion, whether distant or tearing apart someone, some people, or all of us at this very moment. The storm rages on, never ceasing. We may rest at times, but we will not fall into a deep sleep. Let us build a small boat that belongs to us right in the heart of Bermuda. You will hear the wood’s cries, the whispers of radio waves, the lament of flowing water, the moans of sparks, and the silence of gears. Please bring yourself, your tools, and your heart to join us.

This small boat belongs to all the writers involved in the 2024 Shekou Theatre Festival’s new writing incubation program. The voices they create peel away the shells of air and water, reaching for the sky and the depths of the sea.
